Your journey into work?

Posted by wayne in stresscommuteattitude

A simple question like 'What is your journey into work like"? can be interpreted in a variety of interesting ways and I thought it would be worth digging a little deeper.

"Grand as 'owt!"

Posted by wayne in Untagged

Recently I was running a 2 day motivational course in Yorkshire. On Day 1 we had discussed how important it can be to recognise the importance of recognising the good people and the good things that exist in our daily lives and squeezing what good we can out of each day, because we don't know exactly how many we have left. With the average life expectancy in the UK currently at about 29,000 days. and me at 56 years of age, I don't do the maths.

On the morning of Day 2 delegates were handing in their overnight 'homework' to each other. (Don't worry the homework is good fun and can be really impactive) One delegate described how, on her way in she was stood in her local newsagents and an old guy, well into his 80's, was buying his newspaper when the newsagent asked how he was. His reply was priceless in the light of what she had been thinking about on the course. He said "Grand as 'owt thanks, I woke up - so I've got another one!"

The lessons in life surround us, it's just a matter of keeping our radar up. I love this stuff!

You have to laugh

Posted by wayne in Untagged

An airline pilot wrote that on one flight he had hammered his plane onto the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying our airline".

He said that, in the light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally everyone had left except for a little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?" "Why, no Madam," said the pilot. "What is it?"

The little old lady replied, "Did we land, or were we shot down?"

I promise to try harder!

You will have noticed that my Life Blog postings have been very infrequent to say the least. Well today for the first time I looked up the total 'visits' stats on my Blogs and they have just reached the amazing total of 2,000!           Therefore, if so many of you take the trouble to read them, then I owe it to you to write more - It's a promise.

Feeling great about being asked to appear as a guest on the Sally Naden Programme on Monday 24th October 2011 (11am to 1pm) being transmitted live from my local Lowther Pavillion in Lytham. Have been asked to talk about my book and all things motivational I think. I manged to do 4 broadcasts on 'Wayne's Tour' at the time - 1 prior to setting off, 2 during the challenge and 1 on my return.

Members of the public are invited so will be taking a box of books down for signing - just in case.

Book finally published - Wayne's Tour - A Big Bloke's Tour de France

Posted by wayne in Untagged

Well I have finally gone and done it. My book is now live and available both in print and as an e book. I am extremely proud of the result, but the actual process was a complicated and challenging one, but well worth it now.

You can find it via Amazon, Waterstones, Kindle, ibooks etc so feel free to check it out and have a browse through some sample pages on the internet.

If you do me the tremendous honour of purchasing it please register a ''review' (hopefully a favourable one) at the purchase point.

'Why God made mums'

Posted by wayne in Untagged

Laughter is good for you! So as we have just had Mothers Day  here are some answers given by elementary school age children to the following questions. Enjoy!

'Why did God make mothers?'

  1. She is the only one who knows where the sellotape is
  2. Mostly to clean the house
  3. To help us out of there when we were getting born

New years resolutions? - do they work?

Posted by wayne in Untagged

We are now well into February so I was wondering if you were still sticking to the new years resolutions you set after the excesses of the festive holidays?I am going to make a rather blunt statment here and suggest that generally speaking these  annual 'statements of intent' (and usually aimed at changes in lifestyle and health) , just don't seem to work for the majority of people, however well intentioned.

The unfortunate fact is that despite going to school and possible college or university we never get any real help or guidance on how to set  goals in our lives and in such a way that they give us the best chance of success.

I could write thousands of words of advice on such a crucial subject but in a blog I have to keep it simple. The thing is - resolutions don't work - AFFIRMATIONS do! And an affirmation is an inspirational dream expressed as 'reality' in a well written goal.

Wayne's World - where has he been?

Posted by wayne in Untagged

It is about time I wrote another blog because I have been dashing about the UK (and Ireland recently) delivering motivational/attitudinal training programmes to staff who work in the care sector. Most significantly I have been honoured to be able to do a lot of work (hence the gap in my blogs) with care staff in a national care charity - The Disabilities Trust. What a remarkable bunch of people they are, caring for, assessing and rehabilitating service users within autism units, physical disability and acquired brain injury units.

Wherever and whenever I train at these Units I always ask for a guided tour so that I get a feel for the working environment and get a glimpse of ‘the tip of the iceberg' of the daily life of the place. It is always an interesting and humbling experience.
